The art world is no longer dominated by a small group of insiders, in part due to the art economy's transformation from a retail business into a global industry that produces visuality and meaning. This talk questions the assumption of a dichotomy between art and the market. But it also raises objections against the wrong equation between market value and artistic value that tends to occur during so called art booms. While examining the intrinsic connection between artistic production and its market conditions, Graw insists upon art being a commodity not like any other.
